6 tips to improve your memory

Studying is one of the keys to success in college, and to help you achieve your career goals.

A study published in Psychological Science Magazine stated that when you apply a strategic approach in your studying that college students improve exam scores by an average of one-third of a letter grade. To do this, you often need to memorize facts and figures.

This isn’t always easy. We’ve got a few tips to help heighten your memory skills!

Eat Right

A good diet goes a long way towards helping sharpen your brain. Not only will you find it easier to remember facts and figures, but you will be wittier, sharper and wiser in general. What could be better than that? Eat plenty of vegetables, and drink your water!

Get a Good Night’s Rest

Don’t skimp on the sleep. By skipping your nightly z’s, you’ll find it harder to memorize the facts you need to remember for your big test and you might be more irritable too.

Get Plenty of Exercise

A well-exercised body is good for your mind. Don’t be a couch potato and expect that your mind will be sharp as a tack.

Look at Mind-Building Hobbies

Do you like puzzles, playing games or doing escape rooms? These are all mind-building exercises that will keep your brain working and will make it easier for your to memorize facts and figures too. These hobbies are much better for you than watching TV non-stop when you get home from work or school.

Utilize Study Tricks

Study tricks like songs, poems and pneumonic devices are some of the best ways to help your brain associate facts and remember them for the long haul. Don’t be afraid to use these tricks to remember facts for a big test.

Study with Others

Getting help from others in your class or asking for help from your teacher can be an excellent way to keep your memory sharp. By working with others you’ll have someone or several people on your side!

Realize that to succeed in school, you may have to memorize some things, but true learning often comes from doing and experiencing--not rote memorization. One of Benjamin Franklin’s most famed sayings was: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This is vital to keep in mind as you are trying to grow in your studies.
