From the iconic Merlion looking across Marina Bay to the heights of 1-Altitude Club on top of Raffles Place and the Treetop Walk at MacRitchie Reservoir.

Here are my top 10 spots to capture Lion City moments like a local:

The Jewel at Changi Airport

Whether you’ve just landed after a 15-hour flight from LA or are just taking off to nearby Kuala Lumpur, take a moment to appreciate the largest indoor waterfall in the world. The HSBC Rain Vortex anchors the Jewel and flows 40 meters from sky to basin. Take a Zen moment to appreciate this man-made wonder.

Gardens by the Bay with Cloud Forest & Flower Dome

Take in the botanical beauty of Gardens by the Bay with tree-lined trails and popping color of poinsettias in the Flower Dome. Want to frame your photos in a greenhouse terrarium? Look no further than Cloud Forest. Close the day out with the Light Show at the Big Tree Grove. Sound and colors cross every night at 20:00 and 20:30.

The Merlion

He’s looking across Marina Bay and spitting out water 24/7. This guardian of Singapore is very photogenic and frames your photo against the backdrop of the famous Marina Bay Sands or Central Business District. Sunrise, sunset, or under moonlight, the Merlion is always ready for a photo.

Art & Science Museum near Marina Bay Sands

A hot spot for many Instagram influencers. This museum features creative art exhibits. Recently, teamLab launched Crystal Universe that incorporated 170,000 LED lights. Step among the stars in this 4D interactive exhibit and fly away to distant galaxies. You are among the cosmos.

Tree Top Walk at MacRitchie Reservoir

Monkeys? Exotic birds? Look no further than the Tree Top Walk at MacRitchie Reservoir. Ever wanted to cross a bridge that is perched 25 meters above rainforest canopy. Then, you are in the right spot. The free-standing suspension bridge links two peaks: Bukit Pierce and Bukit Kalang together. Did you know this bridge is also helping scientists collect data on the plant identification and the forest eco-system?

The National Gallery of Singapore

The gallery dubs itself “The Art and Soul of Southeast Asia”. Centrally located art & history museum in the Civic District featuring artists from both Singapore and the surrounding region will give you greater insight into the veins and arteries of this city. A picture or painting is worth a thousand words.

Esplanade

Nicknamed the Durian by Singaporeans, this premier performing arts venue on Marina Bay will wow you away with its bristled exterior and warm center. Featuring 41,000 shows each year and ushering in 28 million guests for over 16 years, you can’t miss out on a musical, dance, or theater performance here.

Singapore Flyer

Asia's largest Ferris Wheel offering panoramic views of the city at a max height of 165 meters and diameter of 150 meters. A rotation is 30 minutes. Plenty of time to take in Marina Bay and the Kallang River. On a clear day, you can even see Malaysia and Indonesia in the distance.

The Henderson Waves

A part of the vast Southern Ridges green space, The Henderson Waves is a landmark not to be missed. 36 meters above Henderson Road, this iconic wooden structure weaves its way 274 meters from Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park. Lights illuminate the bridge from 7 PM onwards. Look to the distance and you can spot the skyscrapers of the Central Business District in the distance and Telok Blangah closer by.

Bike Ride along East Coast

Change up your scenery with a ride along the East Coast. Cross bridges and nature preserve as you take in this scenic area. Don’t miss Coney Island where you can spot mangroves and the casuarina woodlands. You may hear an Oriental Magpie’s call or spot a Baya Weaver building a nest.

These are my Singaporean top spots. Be sure to take in as much as you can. Arts, parks, or landmarks, there is something for everyone here. Adjust your shutter speed and get snapping!
