The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA), founded in 2008 by His Majesty King Abdullah II in Jordan, aims to set a new standard in culinary and hospitality education across the Middle East.
As a nonprofit institution, RACA is focused on empowering Jordanian youth and promoting gender equality in the traditionally male-dominated culinary industry.
RACA’s mission aligns with the goals of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD), emphasizing youth employability, women’s empowerment, and local talent development to bolster Jordan’s tourism sector.
RACA's journey has been marked by milestones in educational excellence and inclusivity. Recognized for quality with the UNWTO TedQual Certification and member of the EHL Network of Certified Schools, RACA is known for setting high standards in hospitality education.
A High-Quality Curriculum: RACA offers a 100% English-taught program inspired by the Swiss model of hospitality education. The curriculum, certified by EHL Group, focuses on practical skills, leadership, and customer service, preparing students for global hospitality careers.
Promoting Gender Equality: With women making up 38% of its student body, RACA actively supports gender equality, encouraging female students to pursue leadership roles in hospitality. This initiative seeks to close the gender gap in an industry where women have historically been underrepresented.
Technical Vocational Training (TVT): To meet industry demands and address skills gaps, RACA introduced Technical Vocational Training programs, providing intensive, hands-on training based on Swiss vocational education standards. This program enables students to gain practical skills and prepares them for entry-level positions.
International Partnerships: RACA’s partnership with EHL since 2018 has helped it maintain high educational standards, aligning with global best practices in curriculum and faculty development. Industry partnerships with hospitality leaders like Marriott, Accor Group, and IHG offer students internship and employment opportunities, enhancing their practical experience and professional networks.
High Employability and Global Opportunities: RACA graduates enjoy a 91% employability rate, securing positions both in Jordan and internationally. The academy’s strong industry connections and professional networks facilitate job placement and offer graduates a pathway to international careers.
Recognition and Awards: RACA has been recognized by global institutions, receiving awards for excellence in education, including accreditation from EFQM and the World Association of Chefs’ Societies. It has also experienced a 30% increase in applications since partnering with EHL, cementing its reputation as a premier culinary institution in Jordan.
RACA’s unique approach to culinary education, focusing on empowerment, quality, and inclusivity, has had a transformative impact on Jordan’s hospitality sector. By equipping students with both technical and leadership skills, RACA is fostering a generation of culinary professionals prepared to lead and innovate in the global hospitality industry.
The success of RACA is a testament to its founding vision and commitment to advancing hospitality in Jordan. As RACA continues to grow, it shapes not only the future of its students but also the future of hospitality in Jordan and beyond, driving economic growth and fostering a culture of professionalism, inclusivity, and excellence.
