Those who are looking for a breathtaking view over the Rhine Valley from Chur to Sargans should definitely hike to the Fadärastein. This viewpoint can be reached from Seewis in only 1:15 hours walk. It is the highest point of the hike. Just follow the sign to Fadära.
The Salisweg connects the villages of Malans in the Bündner Herrschaft and Seewis in the Prättigau.
During the hike, you will pass nine information boards, which provide information about the life of Johann Gaudenz von Salis-Seewis.
Johann Gaudenz, born in 1762, was the baron of Salis-Seewis. He was a favourite of Marie Antoinette, the last queen of French Revolution, and served as an officer of the Swiss Guard until the French Revolution in Paris. After his military career, he travelled and made friends with poets such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. However, he maintained his interest in politics and was actively involved in political changes in his home country. Only after some time was he able to return to his birthplace Graubünden, the biggest canton of Switzerland and continue his active involvement there.
By car, you can drive on the A13 and A28 to Seewis. Paid parking facilities are available at the Schützenhaus and the parking garage Leschga. From there you first walk on a paved country road and then on a hiking trail to the Fadärastein.
You can also reach the village by public transport. Take the RhB train to Grüsch and then the Postauto bus to Seewis Dorf. From there you begin your hike in a south-westerly direction to Fadära, always following the signs for Fadära.
